Background Information

The Power Path leadership has kindly agreed to share this information before it gets listed for sale in hopes that a community member will become the new steward.

Casa Primera Luz is located on 40-acres within Blue Deer Ranch and offers an absolutely stunning display of forest, rocky cliffs and a wonderful wilderness feeling with an abundance of animals including elk, bear, coyotes, turkeys and a variety of birds and wildflowers.

The two-story house is very open and spacious with a vaulted tongue and groove fir ceiling and a loft that extends the full length of the house. At either end of the loft there is a 10 by 8.5-foot open space; one is being used for an office and the other as a meditation space. The primary suite is upstairs with a full bathroom and balcony. Downstairs there are 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, each with a tiled shower. The kitchen, dining area and living room span an open floor plan. The house offers stunning views of the surrounding forest and is encircled on three sides by an 8-foot lifetime aluminum deck. The house is extremely well insulated with a passive solar design, and always maintains an excellent level of comfort even in the dead of winter on sunny days. As a backup, there is a 3 cubic foot wood stove that burns up to 10 hours and in-floor propane radiant heating. During the warm months no cooling is required, especially by opening several windows at night and shutting them in the morning to maintain a cool, fresh atmosphere all day. The house sits at 7,300 feet and the nights are always cool.

There is reliable cell phone reception at the house and with a good hotspot device such as Orbi we achieve 20 mb/sec on the T-mobile hotspot. Starlink is another option that offers high download speed (around 100 mb/s).

Blue Deer Ranch comprises 703 acres in total and is shared with neighbors in a unique shared land ownership arrangement. There are 16 individual use area parcels, each approximately 10-acres.  Casa Primara Luz includes 4 individual use areas (numbers 4, 5, 6 & 7) giving the owner a 25% indivisible interest in the entire 703-acre ranch. The house sits on individual use area #4. The three other individual use area parcels (10 acres each) have no buildings and adding up to 5 structures is an option. The remaining 543 acres of the ranch is community land that is available for hiking and exploration.

There are two other neighboring ranches, Eagle Bear Ranch and Inti Palka Ranch. All operate under the same convenants that were established to protect the land, its animals, and the people who live here. We all consider this land a sanctuary.

The property has two points of entrance: one directly from Highway 518 through two protected gates on a 1.1 mile right of way dirt road. The second is from a county road which enters Blue Deer Ranch directly from the southern boundary. The casa has a beautiful view of a high, rocky ridge that divides the valley from the adjacent Highway 518. It is a 30-minute drive to Las Vegas, NM and about 90 minutes to Santa Fe, NM. In the other direction you can drive 20 minutes to Mora, NM.  A popular ski resort is 40 minutes away and in 1 hour you can arrive to Taos, NM.

Living here means living remotely in unrivaled stillness and beauty, yet with connection to a community of like-minded people. Three owners with extended family have been stewards of this property for a decade. It was not an easy decision to let it go, however responsibilities are calling us to Europe.
